Split Tunneling Explained
Route sensitive traffic through the VPN while keeping everything else on your regular connection. The best of both worlds.
In this guide
What Is Split Tunneling
Split tunneling lets you choose which apps or websites use the VPN connection and which use your regular internet. This allows you to protect sensitive traffic while maintaining full speed for everything else.
When to Use Split Tunneling
Banking apps that block VPN connections. Local network devices like printers or smart home devices. Speed-sensitive apps that do not need encryption. Games where you want minimal latency but also want VPN protection for your browser.
How to Configure in CasperVPN
Go to Settings, select Split Tunneling, and choose apps to exclude from the VPN. You can also choose apps to include (everything else bypasses the VPN). This is available on Windows, macOS, Android, and iOS.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is split tunneling less secure?
Traffic outside the tunnel is unencrypted. Only use split tunneling for apps that do not handle sensitive data or that require a direct connection.
